Halloween Wreath
Hey ghouls and creeps! We’ve been vigorously decorating in preparation for Halloween at our house, and part of that tradition is to have some sort of front door decor! When envisioning the perfect Halloween wreath I knew it had to be some combination of orange and black or orange and purple with some spiders hiding among the blooms! You may recognize this camouflage trick from the Spring Goth Wreath project, which you can find here: https://britnijade.com/spring-goth-wreath/ . You could easily do a Fall friendly color palette of this tutorial if spiders aren’t your thing! Truthfully, spiders give me that heebie-jeebies, but that’s part of the Halloween experience, right?!? Let’s get started!
I rated the Halloween Wreath project as easy! This project can go together quickly depending on the size of your blooms! The flowers that I purchased from Micheal’s were larger in size which meant that I could purchase less to fill my wreath frame!
Step 1: Flower Prep: With a pair of wire cutters, cut each flower from the bush with a 4″ wire extension.
For the black hydrangea stems, I also removed the leaves. These will come in handy later to break up the orange areas!
Bend the wire extensions into a ninety-degree angle at the base of the flower heads.
Step 2: Wreath Assembly: Using the perpendicular wires of my wireframe as a guide, I attached my three black hydrangea groups, dividing the frame into thirds. Attach your flower heads by first cutting 7″ pieces of floral wire. Take your floral wire pieces and wrap your flower wire extensions to the wreath frame.
I then divided my orange flowers by three to ensure that I was distributing them equally around the frame.
Pro-tip: start on the outside of each third and work to the middle. This will help to make sure your flowers are spaced evenly!
Continue to attach your flowers until the frame is full. Once filled, use a hot glue gun to glue the sides of the flowers together to stabilize.
To break up the orange sections, I took the leaves from the hydrangeas and glued them in between the peonies. I also glued the leaf tips so that they appeared to curl back into the wreath.
Step 3: Wreath Embellishment: Determine ahead of time where each of your spiders will be placed. Then apply a generous amount of hot glue to the bottom of each spider right before pressing and holding them in place.
Also, try gluing the leg tips to the surrounding flowers for stability.
I later decided to add more of the black leaves so that that the hydrangeas appeared less like “bands” of black. Here’s how it turned out!
Congrats! Your finished! Yippee! Now hang up your new decor and adore it! Great job!
