Paint Splatter Ornaments
Hey ghouls and creeps! We are officially decking the halls and trimming the tree for Creepmas! This is the first project that I made for our black and white themed Creepmas tree this year, and I think they turned out great! These ornaments are a creepy twist to an easy DIY. Make these with the kiddos, or if you are need of Nightmare Before Christmas ornaments in a pinch! Not a big NBC fan? Eliminate Jack’s bow tie and have these beautiful marbled ornaments adorn your tree! Let’s get started!
I rated the Paint Splatter Ornaments project as easy! Skills and techniques involved in the making of this project are shaking acrylic paints inside a transparent ornament, cutting jack’s bow ties with a Cricut machine, gluing paper to paper and paper to plastic.
Step 1: Painting Ornaments: Begin by removing the caps or hangers from each of your ornaments. Then squirt a little bit of white and then black acrylic paint inside the ornament. Pro-tip: Instead of putting a glob of white and black paint at the bottom of the ornament, try drizzling both colors along the sides so that more color mixing/mingling happens!
Then place a piece of tagboard or cardboard over the opening at the top and shake.
Continue shaking your ornament until you’re satisfied with the color mixing. If you have areas lacking paint, add more paint sparingly in an effort to keep the drying time down.
Place your painted ornaments in a bowl or on a tray, with the top opening pointing up. Then allow the paint to dry completely following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 2: Cutting Bow Ties: Use the JPG or SVG files below to cut Jack’s bow ties on your Cricut machine. Follow the instructions on the template to determine paper colors and quantities.

Once your bow ties are cut, adhere bow tie fronts and backs together with a glue stick.
Step 3: Ornament Assembly: Start by cutting your ribbon you’ll be using as ornament hangers into 6″ lengths(two per ornament). Then tie your hangers through the hanging loop with the first ribbon length. Then tie your bows with the second ribbon length.
After twenty four hours, check to see if the paint is dry inside your ornaments. If dry, place your ornament toppers back on each ornament.
Then hot glue your bow ties to the tops of your ornaments.
Congratulations you’re finished! Now go hang your new Creepmas ornaments up on your tree just in time for the holidays!
