Coffin Wallet

Hey ghouls and creeps! I love an easy sewing project that you can whip up in a couple of hours that also uses up those little scraps of fabric in your stash! This project checks both these boxes! Not to mention it’s a super functional item that you can use every day. This wallet has a slim profile with an elastic band to keep your cards and cash in place! So grab scraps of your favorite creepy cottons and let’s get started!

I rated the Coffin Wallet project as easy! This project is a great one for a beginner who is looking to practice sewing with a quick turnaround. Some techniques used are cutting out a pattern, fabric folding, seaming, and binding the wallet’s raw edge.

Step 1: Cutting: Print the PDF file below. Cut out each pattern piece along the perimeter lines and follow instructions on the pattern when cutting out your wallet pieces.

Cut your binding to measure 2 1/8″ wide X 24″ long. From your 1/4″ elastic, cut a piece measuring 7 7/8″ long. Fuse your wallet shell piece to the adhesive side of your Ultra-Firm interfacing.

Step 2: Wallet Assembly: Important note: all seam allowances for this project are a 1/4″. Using the notches on your cardholder strip, accordion fold your card sleeves.

Press your strip once you’ve made all your folds to make them clean and crisp.

Sew the sides of your wallet liner to your folded card holder strip.

With wrong sides together, pin the wallet liner to the wallet shell and frame sew 1/8″ around the outside edge.

Center your elastic on the top and bottom edges of your wallet and stitch back and forth over the elastic ends to stabilize.

Step 3: Wallet Finishing: Sew your binding around your wallet 1/4″ from the edge. Not sure how to bind a raw edge? No problem! I have a binding basics tutorial at this link: https://stitchingwitchcrafts.com/bias-tape-basics/.

Wrap your binding around the edge of the wallet and pin. Slipstitch the binding to the wallet liner.

You’re finished! Yay! Congrats on your new spooky accessory that YOU made! Pop those cards and cash in each sleeve, relish in your accomplishment, and let’s go shopping!
