Valloween Chocolate Boxes

Hey there ghouls and creeps! This week I wanted to decorate some store-bought chocolate boxes just in time for Valloween! I used prompts courtesy of the #valloweenartchallenge to inspire the theming of each box. The guidelines of this challenge are to participate in three of the prompts or all nine, depending on how ambitious you are. I wrote the prompts out on conversation hearts and incorporated them into each design. The prompts for the days I participated in are; slay my heart, hey doll face, and bite me. For slay my heart I went with one of the more iconic slasher movie antagonists, Jason Voorhees, accompanied with his weapon of choice, a machete. Hey doll face had to be Oogie Boogie for his pet name for Sally, and bite me had to have zombies of course.

I love art prompt challenges because they get me to think of creative solutions or projects I may not otherwise create. If you’re feeling creatively spent, no worries, we all have our periods of feeling uninspired! Seeking out prompt lists such as this one can sometimes help this! Let’s get started!

The Valloween Chocolate Boxes project is rated easy! All that’s required is some cutting with your Cricut or Glowforge, gluing and you have yourself a decorated chocolate box! Unfortunately, I would not recommend cutting this project by hand because of the tiny, intricate internal cuts involved.

*Supply quantities below are for one chocolate box.

Step 1: Cut out your Die Cuts: Use the SVG or JPG files below to cut out your box embellishment pieces in Cricut Design Space, or on a Glowforge.

Step 2: Cover Box Top: Take your black heart cutout and apply glue stick to the reverse side, getting up close to the edges.

Lay the glue side of your heart against the top of your box, lining up edges, and press in place.

Apply glue stick or spray adhesive to the wrong side of your pink border cutout.

Press border to the box top, glue side down. Reapply glue to any areas that aren’t adhering well. Use an eraser or a thumbnail to help remove any glue smudges or residue.

Step 3: Attach Flowers: Take your flower heads and snip away the part that connects the head to the stem. This will allow your flowers to be flush with the box top.

Arrange your flowers before gluing them in place to get an idea of how you would like them to look.

After deciding on your arrangement, hot glue flower backs to your box. Push flowers down to the box surface until the glue dries completely.

Step 4: Attach Conversation Heart: If you are gluing your conversation heart directly to the box top, simply apply glue stick and press in place. If you are wanting your heart on the inside of your blooms, first glue stick a solid heart to the backside of the conversation heart. This will help keep your heart from curling.

Put hot glue to the center back of the conversation heart and press to the middle of your flower. Hold heart there until glue has thoroughly dried.

Congrats you’re finished! Gift this box of chocolates to a fellow ghoul, or if this is for yourself, have some chocolate! Truthfully, I helped myself to a couple while making these, so no judgments! Hope you all have a fun, safe, and lovely Valloween!
